Utility Sector Industry (NAICS Code: 926130)

This industry consists of three (3) sectors that include water and sewage, waste, electrical power transmission, airports, dams, and natural gas delivery.

Waste Water Sewage Industry: assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure.

  • Domestic sewage carries used water from houses and apartment; it is also called sanitary sewage.
  • Industrial sewage is used water from manufacturing or chemical processes.
  • Storm sewage, or storm water, is a system designed to carry rainfall runoff and other drainage. It is not designed to carry sewage or accept hazardous wastes. The runoff is carried in underground pipes or open ditches and discharges untreated into local streams rivers, and other surface water bodies. Storm drain inlets are typically found in curbs and low-lying outdoor areas. Some older building have basement floor drains that connect to the storm
  • Improper Disposal: Disposal of chemicals or hazardous substances to the storm sewer system damages the environment. Motor oil, cleaners, paints and other common household items that get into storm drains can poison fish, birds, and other wildlife, and can find their way into drinking water supplies. In addition, grass clippings, leaves, litter, and organic matter can clog storm drains and cause flooding.

Water Industry: The water industry provides drinking water and wastewater services to residential, commercial, and industrial sectors of the economy.

The water industry includes water engineering, operations, water and wastewater plant construction, equipment supply and specialist water treatment chemicals, among others..

Waste Management and Remediation Industry (NAICS Code: 562910):

This industry deals with the collection, treatment, and disposal of waste materials.

Electrical Power Industry: The electric power industry covers the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric power to to the general public and industry.

The electric power industry is commonly split up into four processes. These are electricity generation such as a power station, electric power transmission, electricity distribution and electricity retailing. Electric power distribution is the final stage in the delivery of electric power; it carries electricity from the transmission system to individual consumers.

Oil and Natural Gas Industry: According to EPA, Oil and natural gas systems encompass wells, gas gathering and processing facilities, storage, and transmission and distribution pipelines.

These components are all important aspects of the natural gas cycle—the process of getting natural gas out of the ground and to the end user. Natural gas systems encompass the following industry segments:

  • Production: Taking raw natural gas from underground formations.
  • Gathering and Processing: Stripping out impurities and other hydrocarbons and fluids to produce pipeline grade natural gas that meets specified tariffs (pipeline quality natural gas is 95-98 percent methane).
  • Transmission: Delivery of natural gas from the wellhead and processing plant to city gate stations or industrial end users. Transmission occurs through a vast network of high pressure pipelines. Natural gas storage falls within this sector. Natural gas is typically stored in depleted underground reservoirs, aquifers, and salt caverns.
  • Distribution: Delivery of natural gas from the major pipelines to the end users (e.g., residential, commercial and industrial).
In the oil industry, some underground crude contains natural gas that is en-trained in the oil at high reservoir pressures. When oil is removed from the reservoir, associated natural gas is produced.

Nuclear Energy Industry (NAICS Code: 221118)

This industry uses nuclear reactions that release nuclear energy to generate heat, which most frequently is then used in steam turbines to produce electricity in a nuclear power plant. Nuclear power can be obtained from nuclear fission, nuclear decay and nuclear fusion reactions.
